Hi everybody,

Now that the pet revamp is fully in place, it’s time for me to figure out what’s next for UOCraft! The Pet Power Calculator is mostly moot now, with the exception of 5-slot greater dragons and dragon turtles. I’ll keep it around for that reason, but these days, you can just about tame any freshie and turn it into a beast, regardless of its starting stats! The few exceptions where you might care about stats (wanting or avoiding a cu sidhe with overcapped resists, for example) are so subjective that a calculator couldn’t do those decisions justice. So the PPC will remain as-is if you’d like to rate your GDs and turtles, but won’t be modified moving forward.

The tool I’d like to create is a pet training planner – one where you can plan out all rounds of training through to your finished pet. I can see myself saving various pet plans and then printing them out, sticking them on the board, and going to work training! Would you be interested in something like that? Click a yes, no, or maybe (preferably yes or no!) on the poll at the top left of this page.

As always, if you’ve got ideas or suggestions, feel free to message me on the UO Stratics forums (I’m kitiara-atlantic there) or email uocraft@gmail.com.

Thanks, and happy taming!

Happy summer, everybody!

I’ve been playing around with custom carpets in UO. They’re most awesome because they don’t use up any house lockdowns, and you can design them in any shape or size that you need. It’s tough, though, to visualize what you want when there are so many different pieces to consider. I found myself sketching out X’s and O’s and counting up the pieces so that I’d get it right when I went shopping. With those hassles in mind, I created the Custom Carpet Designer tool. You can lay out your carpet on a nice big grid (I hope 12×12 is enough for everybody!), and the tool will calculate how many of each piece you need. When you finish your design, you can hide the grid lines and take a screenshot of your masterpiece and then go shopping for the parts!

There are a few limitations that I may or may not get around to working on. The biggest one is that you can only use one style of center piece per rug design. On the bright side, once you get the layout you want, you can toggle between the different styles to see how that size of rug looks in each style. One trick to making sure the end piece count comes out right: once you pick up a piece, make sure you drop it in the “other” area – don’t drop it into the same area you grabbed it from. (So, if you grab it from the top selection of pieces, make sure you drop it in the bottom grid, or vice versa). If you accidentally grab the wrong piece and don’t want to use that piece, still continue to drop it in the opposite area, then pick it up again and put it in its original spot. Otherwise, if you drop it in the same spot from where it came, the counter will still count it and your end tally will be off. I plan to take a look at this and find a solution, but I’ve run out of time for now and wanted to let people use the tool in the meantime!

I hope this helps all of the deco maniacs of Britannia lay carpets in style!

I was having a “duh!” moment…

Please welcome Knuckleheads.dk to the Friends of UOCraft sidebar! Don’t ask why it took so long. Like I said…

They’ve got some fantastic crafting calculators (that I happen to use all the time) – particularly for suit building and imbuing… all the calculators I have dreamed of making. Alas, my loyalties (and free time) lie with the Pet Power Calculator! 🙂

So, do take advantage of the Knuckleheads.dk crafting calcs, and keep an eye out for Gilmour on the forums, who is a stand-up player as well.

Hi everybody,

Big news! The first edition of UOCraft Mobile is up and running!

Just fire up a browser on your phone or tablet and go to: http://m.uocraft.com.

The Mobile version of UOCraft contains the Pet Power Calculator, the Stable Slot Calculator, the Control Chance Calculator, and the Best Battle Pet Tool.

Of course, you can still view the full version of the site on your mobile devices via the standard URL, http://www.uocraft.com. Pick your poison – the full interface or the mobile-customized version.

The mobile site is optimized for mobile browsers that support HTML5 (particularly, HTML5 form controls). Android Browser and Internet Explorer are a little behind on those features, but the experience should be as-intended in Safari on Apple devices, Google Chrome, Blackberry browser, Firefox, and Opera Mobile. (For example, if your browser doesn’t support HTML5 form controls, you will not be brought directly to the numeric keypad when you click into a numeric text field; you’ll have to switch from the alphabet keyboard to the number pad).

Being a new release, I do expect that there will be bugs – so, please, if you come across anything that doesn’t seem to be working properly, or you have suggestions for improvement, let me know. The core functionality of each tool is identical to the full web version, so you should expect the same results.

If you have any questions or comments, feel free to contact me here, or on the Stratics Tamer forum or UOForums, or on the UOCraft facebook page. Thanks!

** NOTE: There may be a brief outage this weekend as I update the domain name registrar, but I don’t expect anything extensive.

Hi everybody,

By popular demand (most recently requested by Thimotty!), I’ve enabled bookmarking functionality on the Pet Power Calculator. Now, you can bookmark your pet’s results to retrieve later. My suggestion is to bookmark each of your pets, adding their names to the title of each bookmark.

If you notice anything acting strangely after this update, please let me know.

Thanks, and enjoy!

Hi everybody!

I will be performing some maintenance on UOCraft.com and upgrading to a new web server shortly. There may be some downtime involved, but with any luck it will be very short (a few hours, tops). I’ll post here with an update once the move is complete, and aside from a possible brief outage, you shouldn’t notice anything (except a speedier web site!)

Fingers crossed that all goes well! Thanks for your ongoing support and love of Ultima Online!
